Lori Elaine Lightfoot, born on August 4, 1962, is an accomplished American attorney and politician who made history as the 56th mayor of Chicago, serving from 2019 until 2023. Representing the Democratic Party, Lightfoot broke significant barriers by becoming the first Black woman and the first openly LGBTQ individual to assume the role of mayor in Chicago's history. Her tenure not only marked her as the second woman to hold this office, following Jane Byrne, but also as the third Black person to do so.
