John Phillip Law
John Phillip Law (September 7, 1937 – May 13, 2008) was a prominent American film actor renowned for his extensive career, which included over one hundred film roles. Born in Los Angeles, California, he was the son of actress Phyllis Sallee and the brother of actor Thomas Augustus Law, known as Tom Law. Law became famous for his striking performance as Pygar, the blind angel in the 1968 cult classic, *Barbarella*, and as the news anchor Robin Stone in the 1971 film *The Love Machine*, which brought him back together with Alexandra Hay, his co-star from the 1968 film *Skidoo*.
Standing tall at six-foot-five, Law captivated audiences with his steel blue eyes and good looks, becoming a male sex symbol in the 1960s. Though he never reached the heights of superstar status, he enjoyed popularity as an action hero, particularly within Italian cinema, starring in a diverse array of genres including science fiction, fantasy, drama, and Westerns. Some notable films include *Danger: Diabolik*, *The Golden Voyage of Sinbad*, and *Death Rides a Horse*. Law also made an appearance in Roman Coppola’s 2001 film *CQ*, a nod to the B-movies of the 1960s in which he often starred.
Married to actress Shawn Ryan, Law had a daughter named Dawn. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in late 2007 and passed away on May 13, 2008, at his home in Los Angeles. His ashes were kept by his daughter and grandson, Ryan.
