Robin Sherwood
Robin Sherwood is an accomplished American actress, born in Miami Beach, Florida, to the Honorable Wolfie Cohen, a successful restaurateur and former city councilman, and Miriam Rose Cohen, a distinguished society hostess. The family split their time between Miami Beach during the fall and winter months and Europe in the spring and summer. Sherwood made her stage debut at the tender age of nine, showcasing her early passion for performance.
Tragedy struck when she lost her mother to ovarian cancer at just 11 years old, leaving her to navigate her teenage years largely on her own. In the absence of maternal guidance, Sherwood turned to classic films and literature, absorbing the works of Jane Austen, the Brontë sisters, Emily Dickinson, and Lord Byron to shape her understanding of femininity. This unique perspective influenced her acting career, allowing her to draw on her imaginative experiences.
At 14, she signed with a talent agency in Miami, leading to a successful modeling career with appearances in national commercials and on the runways for designers like Oleg Cassini. She further honed her craft at Sarah Lawrence College and in London, where she took on notable roles in musical comedies.
Sherwood made her film debut in independent cinema, appearing in Bill Murray's "Coming Attractions" (1980) and gaining prominence with "Tourist Trap" (1979). She transitioned to major films, notably starring alongside John Ritter in "Hero at Large" (1980) and receiving acclaim for her role in "Death Wish II" (1982). Her performance earned her critical praise, particularly from Vincent Canby of The New York Times, cementing her status as an international box office star.
