James McGowan
James Robert McGowan, born on May 30, 1960, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, is a talented actor with a diverse career in film and television. The youngest of three sons, he grew up influenced by his father, Johnny McGowan, a former light heavyweight boxer from Northern England. After completing a B.A. in Communications at Concordia University, James initially ventured into advertising as a copywriter, believing that a career in acting was not financially viable. However, his passion for performance reignited while working in the audio-visual department at McGill University, where he began participating in student productions.
Despite facing challenges in breaking into the competitive Toronto television scene at the age of 36, James landed guest roles in popular shows like *La Femme Nikita*, *Mutant-X*, *Falcon Beach*, and *Rent-a-Goalie*. He also appeared in films such as *The Perfect Man*, *The Prince and Me*, and *Silent Night*. His notable television commercials, including the impactful "Doctor's Appointment" ad during the 2001 NHL Finals and another for Verizon Wireless titled "The Deal," gained him recognition.
A significant breakthrough came with his role in the TV movie *10,000 Black Men Named George*, which led to more opportunities.
