Paul Higgins
Paul Higgins is a distinguished Scottish actor celebrated for his compelling performances in several prominent British television series, including The Thick of It, Utopia, and Line of Duty.
Born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, Higgins was raised in a Roman Catholic household but later identified as a lapsed Catholic. His early aspirations to become a priest shifted when, at the age of 17, he chose to pursue a different path after entering a romantic relationship.
Higgins has showcased his talent on stage, performing in productions such as Paul and the critically acclaimed Black Watch, as well as in the film Complicity. He gained notable recognition for his role as Alan in the ITV hospital drama Staying Alive. In the satirical series The Thick of It, he portrayed Jamie McDonald, a formidable press officer, and reprised this role in the spin-off film In the Loop. His performance as Gil Cameron in the BBC drama Hope Springs in 2009 further solidified his reputation. Higgins also played Michael Dugdale in Channel 4’s popular conspiracy thriller Utopia. He made his debut in the BBC series Line of Duty in 2013, returning for the fourth season in 2017.
In addition to his acting career, Higgins demonstrated his writing talent with the play Nobody Will Ever Forgive Us, which was staged at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh in collaboration with the National Theatre of Scotland in November 2008.
