Simon Callow
Simon Phillip Hugh Callow CBE, born on June 15, 1949, in Streatham, South London, is a distinguished English actor celebrated for his dynamic performances on both stage and screen. With a career spanning several decades, Callow has garnered numerous accolades, including an Olivier Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award, along with nominations for two BAFTA Awards. In recognition of his contributions to the arts, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in 1999.
Callow gained significant acclaim for his portrayal of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Peter Shaffer's 1979 play *Amadeus*, earning a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. He subsequently starred as Emanuel Schikaneder in Miloš Forman's film adaptation of the play in 1984. He won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Director of a Musical in 1992 for *Carmen Jones* and received critical praise for his roles in notable films like *A Room with a View* (1985) and *Four Weddings and a Funeral* (1994), both of which earned him BAFTA nominations.
On television, Callow has appeared in various roles, including Tom Chance in the Channel 4 series *Chance in a Million* and The Duke of Sandringham in *Outlander*. His extensive body of work encompasses appearances in *Doctor Who*, *Galavant*, and *The Witcher*. Raised by his mother and grandmothers after his father's departure, he was educated at the London Oratory School and briefly attended Queen's University Belfast before pursuing acting at the Drama Centre London.
