Carol Grace

Carol Grace (September 11, 1924 – July 20, 2003) was a distinguished American actress and author, often recognized by her married names, Carol Marcus Saroyan and Carol Matthau. Born in the Lower East Side of New York City to a young Russian Jewish immigrant mother, Grace faced a challenging childhood, spending her early years in foster care before reuniting with her family.

In 1933, her mother, Rosheen "Ray" Marcus, married Charles Marcus, a wealthy co-founder of the Bendix Corporation. This marriage brought Grace into a life of affluence on Park Avenue, where she experienced a stark contrast to her earlier upbringing. However, family complexities surfaced when it was revealed that her mother had another daughter, Elinor, whom she had placed in foster care.

Grace's artistic career flourished, and she became a noted figure in New York's cultural scene. She is often cited as the inspiration behind the iconic character Holly Golightly from Truman Capote's celebrated novella, "Breakfast at Tiffany's," a testament to her impact on literature and film.
