Aksel Orav
Aksel Orav, born on February 19, 1929, in Alasoo, Estonia, made significant contributions to the world of performing arts before his passing on October 28, 2003. After completing his studies at Tartu 1st Middle School in 1947, he pursued agronomy at Tartu State University until 1950. Orav’s passion for acting led him to the Estonian studio of GITIS in Moscow, where he graduated as an actor in 1953.
Following his education, Orav became a prominent figure at the Drama Theater, where he showcased his talents not only as an actor but also as a director. His versatile career spanned decades, during which he left an indelible mark on Estonian theater.
In addition to his work on stage, Aksel Orav was also an accomplished translator. Between 1979 and 1991, he translated various literary works from Russian, contributing to the cultural exchange between the two languages and enriching Estonian literature.
