Elizabeth of Toro

Princess Elizabeth Christobel Edith Bagaaya Akiiki of Toro, known as the Batebe of the Kingdom of Toro, is a multifaceted Ugandan figure who has made significant contributions across various fields, including law, politics, diplomacy, modeling, and acting. Notably, she holds the distinction of being the first woman from East Africa to gain admission to the English Bar, marking a pivotal milestone in her legal career.

Beyond her legal accomplishments, Princess Elizabeth briefly held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs from February to November 1974 during the tumultuous regime of Idi Amin. In addition to her political endeavors, she has made a name for herself in the modeling and film industries, showcasing her versatility and talent.

As a member of the royal family, she is the paternal aunt of the reigning King of Toro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. Throughout her life, she has exemplified a commitment to public service and cultural representation, earning recognition both nationally and internationally.
