Tony Pitts is a versatile actor, screenwriter, and playwright hailing from Sheffield, England. Initially aspiring to pursue medicine, Pitts shifted gears early in his career and found work as a car mechanic. His life took a pivotal turn while studying at Stannington College when he was recruited by acclaimed writer Barry Hines for extras in his drama "Looks and Smiles." This opportunity quickly led to a larger role, igniting Pitts's passion for acting.
In 1983, he secured the iconic role of Archie Brooks in the beloved ITV soap opera "Emmerdale," where he captivated audiences for a decade until his character's dramatic demise in the notorious plane crash episode on December 30, 1993. Following his time in "Emmerdale," Pitts expanded his repertoire across television, film, radio, and theatre with notable appearances in productions like "War Horse," "Lilyhammer," and "Peaky Blinders."
In 2018, he showcased his creative talents by writing, producing, and starring in "Funny Cow," a film centered on a female stand-up comedian navigating the northern club scene of the 1970s, featuring his friend Maxine Peake in the lead role. In 2021, Pitts partnered with actress Katherine Kelly to establish Make Me Films, releasing their inaugural short "Let Her Go" in 2022, which marked Pitts's debut as a director.
