Kalymbetov's academic journey in the performing arts began with his graduation from the Kazakh State Conservatory named after Kurmangazy in 1977, where he honed his acting skills under the guidance of the esteemed People's Artist of the USSR, Professor H. Bukeeva. He further advanced his expertise by completing the directing program at the Almaty State Theater and Art Institute in 1989.

With a prolific career, he has appeared in over 50 films, showcasing his talent primarily at Kazakhfilm, alongside various other studios across the former Soviet Union. His extensive filmography is a testament to his versatility and dedication to the craft.
