Dave Holmes
David Robert "Dave" Holmes, born on March 14, 1971, is a well-known television host who first captured the nation's attention as the runner-up in MTV's inaugural Wanna Be a VJ contest in 1998. Holmes stood out from his competitors with his extensive knowledge of music trivia, even though he ultimately lost to Jesse Camp. Following the contest, MTV recognized his talent and brought him on board to conduct celebrity interviews, leading to a successful stint hosting a variety of shows including 120 Minutes, a reunion special for The Real World, and the engaging Say What? Karaoke, which he continued until 2001.
After his time at MTV, Holmes expanded his career by co-hosting Saturday Night Solution on Court TV and FX's DVD on TV. In 2005, he took the lead as host of the CBS summer series Fire Me...Please. His versatility as a performer has allowed him to appear on numerous VH1 programs, such as Best Week Ever, and on Comedy Central's Reno 911!, as well as in the film Fantastic Four.
Holmes made headlines in 2002 when he publicly came out as gay in Out magazine and has been in a relationship with singer-songwriter Ben Wise. He participated in the "It Gets Better" project in 2010 to support LGBTQ youth. Today, he continues to engage audiences through his work at FX and his daily video podcast, A Drink With Dave.
