1 title Acting Mar 22, 1968 Died: Aug 10, 1993 Surnadal, Norway

Øystein Aarseth, born on March 22, 1968, and tragically passing on August 10, 1993, is more famously recognized by his stage name, Euronymous. He played a pivotal role in shaping the early Norwegian black metal scene, primarily as a co-founder and guitarist for the influential band Mayhem. Since the band's inception in 1984, Euronymous remained its sole consistent member until his untimely death nearly a decade later.

In addition to his musical contributions, Euronymous established and managed Deathlike Silence Productions, a record label dedicated to extreme metal, and owned the iconic record shop Helvete, which became a hub for the burgeoning black metal community. He was known for his radical viewpoints, identifying as a theistic Satanist and often making provocative statements that reflected his misanthropic beliefs. Euronymous also positioned himself as the leader of a controversial and tight-knit group referred to as the "Black Metal Inner Circle."

His life was cut short when he was murdered by former bandmate Varg Vikernes in 1993, a tragic event that would leave a lasting impression on the metal genre and its culture. Despite his brief career, Euronymous's impact on black metal and his role in its evolution remain significant to this day.
