Nina Menkes

Nina Menkes is a distinguished filmmaker renowned for her innovative contributions to cinema. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in film production from UCLA in 1989. Menkes has been honored with Fulbright Research Awards, enabling her to explore the Middle East, and she currently shares her expertise as a member of the film faculty at the California Institute of the Arts.

Her cinematic works have gained significant recognition on the international stage, showcased at prestigious festivals such as Sundance, Cannes (ACID section), Rotterdam, Locarno, and Toronto. Among her notable achievements is the documentary *Massaker*, which she not only directed but also served as the cinematographer. The film premiered at the Berlinale and was celebrated with the FIPRESCI Award for its impactful storytelling.

In addition, her 1996 feature film *The Bloody Child* received critical acclaim, being selected as one of the top films of the last fifty years by the Vienna International Film Festival in Austria.
