Becki Hayes

Becki Hayes, a talented actress from Texas, is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA, celebrated for her roles that span both deaf and hearing characters. Her journey began with hereditary, progressive hearing loss, which led to profound deafness by the age of 12.

Becki's television career took off with her appearance in ABC's "Gideons Crossing," where she shared the screen with Academy Award-winning actress Marlee Matlin. In this poignant role, she depicted a deaf teenager grappling with her parents' wishes regarding cochlear implants. Interestingly, shortly after the show's release, Becki herself underwent bilateral cochlear implant surgery, making her personal experience resonate deeply with her character.

She views her past deafness as a unique asset to her artistic expression. Becki states, "When one sense diminishes, the others become incredibly acute. I had to rely heavily on facial expressions and body language to interpret conversations, which allows me to engage with authenticity. My ability to 'hear' beyond spoken words is a remarkable gift for acting, and I feel fortunate to have it."

Currently, Becki is working on a dramedy, which she began developing in 2020, inspired by her life as a formerly deaf wife and mother navigating the changes brought on by her cochlear implants. Her story is one of resilience, creativity, and the power of adaptation.
