Florian Yuriev
Florian Yuriev was a multifaceted Ukrainian creative, known for his roles as a teacher, artist, architect, composer, art critic, scientist, colorist, and violin maker. He held a candidate degree in art history and was recognized as an honored worker of culture in Ukraine, reflecting his significant contributions to the cultural landscape.
One of Yuriev's most notable achievements was the design of the "Flying Saucer," an iconic architectural landmark in Kyiv completed in 1978. His innovative vision faced threats of illegal reconstruction, prompting discussions captured in two documentaries by Oleksiy Radynski: "Facade Colour: Blue" (2019) and the full-length feature "Infinity According to Florian" (2022).
In addition to his architectural work, Yuriev was also a dedicated filmmaker. His abstract film about nature was transformed into a short piece titled "Film Dedicated to Water and Trees," which was posthumously showcased at the Rotterdam Film Festival in 2023, marking an important moment in his artistic legacy.
Florian Yuriev passed away in Kyiv in 2022, leaving behind a rich tapestry of contributions across various fields, each reflecting his passion for art and culture. His life and work continue to inspire future generations, underscoring his lasting impact on the arts in Ukraine.
