Berton's journalistic career included stints as a reporter and war correspondent, as well as editorial roles at Maclean's Magazine and The Toronto Star. He became a household name through his long-standing participation on the television program Front Page Challenge, where he engaged viewers for 39 years. Additionally, he hosted "The Pierre Berton Show" from 1962 to 1973, further showcasing his broadcasting prowess.

His debut work, "Klondike" (1958), explored the gold rush era, drawing inspiration from his father's experiences.
