Raphael Rowe

Raphael Rowe is a prominent British journalist and television presenter, known for his compelling storytelling and resilience in the face of adversity. Born in 1968 in South-East London to a family of Jamaican and British descent, Rowe's life took a drastic turn when he was wrongfully convicted in 1990 for a murder and a series of robberies tied to the notorious M25 Three case. Despite his unwavering claims of innocence, he was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

Rowe spent nearly twelve years behind bars, during which he fought tirelessly for justice. His persistence paid off when, in July 2000, his conviction was deemed unsafe by the Court of Appeal, leading to his release. Rowe alleged that police misconduct and unreliable witness testimony had contributed to his wrongful imprisonment.

After gaining his freedom, Rowe embarked on a successful career in journalism, starting as a reporter for BBC Radio 4 in 2001. He has since hosted numerous programs for the BBC and made notable contributions to investigative journalism, including a documentary on the Barry George case. In 2017, he walked the Camino de Santiago for a BBC Two series, highlighting his adventurous spirit.

Currently, Rowe is a reporter on BBC One's "The One Show" and "Sunday Morning Live." He is also the host of the Netflix series "Inside the World's Toughest Prisons" and launched his podcast "Second Chance" in August 2020. His memoir, "Notorious," was published in December 2020, reflecting on his extraordinary journey.

On a personal note, Rowe reconnected with a former partner post-incarceration, and they welcomed their first child in 2004. He also has a son from a previous relationship, with whom he has rebuilt a bond after years apart. Rowe credits his unique experiences with shaping his career and dedication to journalism.
