Lembit Ulfsak
Lembit Ulfsak (July 4, 1947 – March 22, 2017) was a prominent Estonian actor and director, renowned for his contributions to both theatre and film. Born in Koeru and raised in Räpina, he completed his basic education before graduating from Tallinn 7th Secondary School in 1966. He further honed his craft at the Tallinn State Conservatory, where he studied performing arts from 1966 to 1970.
Ulfsak's career flourished at the Estonian SSR State Youth Theatre and the Drama Theatre, alongside his work at Tallinnfilm. He gained international acclaim for his performances, particularly in "The Legend of Till" (1976) and the critically lauded film "Tangerines" (2013). The latter was nominated as one of the five best foreign language films at the 2014 Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards, solidifying his status on the global stage.
In addition to his acting prowess, Ulfsak was also a member of the band Amor Trio from 1972 to 1973, showcasing his diverse talents. His legacy continues to be honored; a memorial bench was unveiled on June 1, 2019, near his beloved coastal residence on the Kakumäe Peninsula, paying tribute to his remarkable impact on Estonian culture and the arts.
