Nanette Joan Workman, born on November 20, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York, is a multifaceted artist known for her work as a singer-songwriter, actress, and author. Throughout much of her career, she has resided in Quebec, Canada, and holds dual citizenship in the United States and Canada. Growing up in Jackson, Mississippi, in a musical family, Workman was immersed in the arts from a young age. Although her primary language is English, she predominantly performs in French.

Her musical journey began early; she studied piano and started performing at the age of 11 on the WLBT television program Mr. Magic, eventually earning her own show, Teen Tempos. After completing her education at Provine High School, she briefly attended the University of Southern Mississippi before heading to Broadway at 18.

In 1964, she took on the role of Rosemary in the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Her career took a significant turn in 1966 when she recorded her first French single, "Et Maintenant," which topped the charts in Canada. Over the next two years, Workman became a household name in Canadian television and music, even hosting the show Fleurs d'amour, fleurs d'amitié.

Workman later moved to England, where she appeared on the comedy series Not Only... But Also, and mistakenly credited as Nanette Newman, lent her voice to tracks for The Rolling Stones and collaborated with notable artists like John Lennon and Elton John. She also made a memorable appearance on The Benny Hill Show in 1971. Her contributions to music have been recognized in her home state of Mississippi, where she was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame.
