Nadia Murad
Nadia Murad Basee Taha, an Iraqi Yazidi human rights advocate, currently resides in Germany. Her life took a harrowing turn in 2014 when she was abducted from her hometown of Kocho by the Islamic State, where she endured three months of captivity.
Following her escape, Murad became a powerful voice against the atrocities faced by the Yazidi community and women affected by sexual violence in conflict. She has dedicated her life to raising awareness about these issues on a global scale. In recognition of her tireless efforts, Murad was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018, sharing the honor with Dr. Denis Mukwege for their work in combating sexual violence as a weapon of war.
Murad is also the author of the memoir "The Last Girl: My Story of Captivity, and My Fight Against the Islamic State," which details her experiences and serves as a call to action for justice and healing. Furthermore, she co-founded the Nadia’s Initiative, an organization focused on supporting survivors of sexual violence and rebuilding communities affected by conflict.
