The Rev

1 title Acting Feb 09, 1981 Died: Dec 28, 2009 Huntington Beach, California, USA

James Owen Sullivan, famously known as The Rev (February 9, 1981 – December 28, 2009), was a prominent American musician celebrated primarily as the drummer and one of the founding members of the heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold. His dynamic drumming and songwriting skills contributed significantly to the band's success, particularly on critically acclaimed albums like "Waking the Fallen" and "City of Evil." Beyond his work with Avenged Sevenfold, The Rev also showcased his versatility as the lead vocalist and pianist for the side project Pinkly Smooth, where he adopted the moniker Rathead, collaborating with his childhood friend and Avenged Sevenfold guitarist, Synyster Gates. Earlier in his career, he played drums for the band Suburban Legends from 1998 to 1999.

Tragically, The Rev's life was cut short when he was discovered deceased in his Huntington Beach residence on December 28, 2009. Investigations ruled out foul play, attributing his untimely passing to natural causes. An autopsy, conducted shortly after his death, was inconclusive; however, later toxicology reports revealed a combination of prescription drugs and alcohol as contributing factors. Additionally, findings indicated that cardiomegaly, or an enlarged heart, was a significant health issue that may have influenced his death. The Rev’s legacy continues to resonate within the music community, solidifying his status as an influential figure in heavy metal history.
