Perry King, whose full name is Perry Firestone King, launched his acting career at the age of approximately 23 with his debut in the 1972 film Slaughterhouse-Five. He gained further recognition in 1975 when he took on the role of Hammond Maxwell in the controversial film Mandingo. Throughout the 1970s and beyond, King has built an extensive filmography, featuring in numerous films, TV series, and television films. He famously auditioned for the iconic part of Han Solo in Star Wars, although the character was ultimately portrayed by Harrison Ford. Nevertheless, he lent his voice to Han Solo in the radio adaptations of the original Star Wars trilogy.

In 1984, King received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in the television movie The Hasty Heart. That same year, he began playing the character Cody Allen in the series Riptide, further solidifying his position in the industry.

In 1993, he starred in the TV adaptation of Sidney Sheldon's novel A Stranger in the Mirror, which offers a fictionalized account of Groucho Marx. He took on the role of Hayley Armstrong in Melrose Place in 1995 and later appeared as Richard Williams in the NBC series Titans alongside Yasmine Bleeth in 2000. Additionally, he portrayed the President of the United States in the 2004 film The Day After Tomorrow.

King has also made notable guest appearances on various television shows, including Spin City, Will & Grace, Eve, and Cold Case.
