Geo Saizescu (14 November 1932 – 23 September 2013) was a distinguished Romanian filmmaker, screenwriter, and actor whose contributions significantly shaped Romanian cinema. Over his prolific career, he appeared in 22 films from 1963 to 2009 and directed 16 films between 1956 and 2012.

Born in the village of Prisăceaua in Mehedinți County, Geo was the youngest of twelve children in a family where his father served as a local notary. He completed his secondary education at Traian High School in Turnu Severin before pursuing his passion for film at the I.L. Caragiale Institute of Theatre and Film Arts in Bucharest, graduating in 1957. His directorial journey commenced with "Aventurile bravului soldat Svejk" in 1956, followed by his 1958 work "Doi vecini," which he both scripted and directed.

In recognition of his artistic contributions, Saizescu was honored with the National Order of Faithful Service at the Knight rank in 2002. He passed away in Bucharest at the age of 80 and was laid to rest at Cernica Monastery Cemetery in Pantelimon.

Saizescu also played a pivotal role in academia, founding the Faculty of Arts at Hyperion University in Bucharest, which today carries his name. His legacy continues through his son, Cătălin Saizescu, who is also involved in the film industry as an actor, director, and producer.
