Isao Kimura (木村 功 Kimura Isao), also referred to as Kō Kimura, was a prominent Japanese actor recognized for his significant contributions to cinema. He featured in numerous films helmed by the legendary director Akira Kurosawa, making his debut in the 1949 film Stray Dog, where he portrayed Yusa, a criminal character. One of his most remarkable performances was as Katsushiro, the youngest samurai, in the iconic film Seven Samurai. Throughout his extensive career, which lasted nearly three decades, Kimura also worked with esteemed director Mikio Naruse and took part in the renowned Lone Wolf and Cub film series.
In addition to his acting pursuits, Kimura established and led an acting troupe; however, it eventually faced financial difficulties and went bankrupt. Unfortunately, his life was cut short when he succumbed to esophageal cancer at the age of 57. Kimura's legacy in the film industry remains notable, as he played a crucial role in Japanese cinema during his era, collaborating with some of the most influential filmmakers and leaving an indelible mark on the art of acting.
