Pons Maar
Pons Maar, hailing from Florida, embarked on his artistic journey with a focus on ceramics and visual arts. His relocation to San Francisco marked the beginning of his vibrant presence in the local arts community, where he thrived as a graphic designer, performance artist, and musician in various art/punk bands. A pivotal moment in his career occurred during a solo performance of 'Natural Enemies,' where he caught the attention of renowned Oscar-winning Sound Designer/Editor Walter Murch. This led to Pons being cast as the Lead Wheeler in Murch's directorial debut, *Return to Oz* (1985).
In addition to acting, Pons took on the role of Performance Coordinator, establishing a trend of engaging in multifaceted roles in film. He further explored the realms of extreme latex makeup and elaborate creature suits through performances in *Golden Child* (1987) and *Masters of the Universe* (1988). Pons's career continued to flourish with a significant role in the television series *Dinosaurs* (1991) and as the lead in *Theodore Rex* (1995).
Transitioning to behind-the-scenes work, he became a pivotal figure in coordinating puppets and creatures for numerous films and television productions. From 2003 to 2005, he co-led the Screen Actor's Guild Puppeteer Committee, successfully advocating for the elevation of puppeteers' status. As of 2017, Pons is a partner at TASTY NAME, a boutique video production company based in Alameda, California.
