Thierry Guetta

Thierry Guetta, widely recognized by his artistic alias Mr. Brainwash, emerged as a prominent figure in the contemporary art scene, particularly as a street artist. Born in France and now based in Los Angeles, Guetta's journey began as a clothing store owner and videographer, where he developed a passion for street art by documenting influential artists like Banksy, Shepard Fairey, and Invader, his cousin.

His transformation into an artist is chronicled in the 2010 documentary "Exit Through the Gift Shop," directed by the enigmatic Banksy. The film showcases Guetta's encounters with various street artists and provides a glimpse into his unconventional approach to art. While his works echo the styles of renowned street artists, Guetta has admitted that his creative process often involves collaborating with hired graphic designers, rather than hands-on creation.

Guetta's debut exhibition, "Life is Beautiful," was held on June 18, 2008, in Los Angeles and garnered significant attention. In 2009, he expanded his reach into the music industry by designing the cover for Madonna's "Celebration" album. Following this success, his second exhibition, "ICONS," launched in New York City on February 14, 2010. Throughout his career, Guetta has continued to blur the lines between commerciality and street art, establishing himself as a unique voice in the modern art landscape.
