Kiki Dee

Pauline Matthews, born on March 6, 1947, is widely recognized by her stage name Kiki Dee. This talented English pop singer is celebrated for her soulful blue-eyed vocals and is notable for being the first female artist from the UK to sign with Motown's Tamla Records.

Dee's career took off with her 1973 hit "Amoureuse," followed by her 1974 anthem "I've Got the Music in Me," and the iconic 1976 duet "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" with Elton John, which soared to number one on both the UK Singles Chart and the US Billboard Hot 100. Her 1981 track "Star" later became the theme for the revived BBC talent show Opportunity Knocks in 1987. In 1993, she collaborated once again with John, covering Cole Porter's "True Love," which reached number 2 in the UK. Over the years, Dee has released an impressive catalog of 40 singles, three EPs, and 12 albums.

Hailing from Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire, Kiki discovered her passion for music early, winning a local talent contest at age 10. By 16, she was performing with a dance band in Leeds while working at Boots. Her big break came in 1963 when she signed with Fontana Records, launching her career as a session singer before achieving solo fame. Dee's debut album, "I'm Kiki Dee," came out in 1968, showcasing her unique sound and establishing her as a significant figure in the music industry.
