Turo Pajala
Turo Pajala (November 16, 1955 – February 28, 2007) was a distinguished Finnish actor known for his compelling performances both on the big screen and television. He gained notable recognition for his portrayal of Taisto Kasurinen, an unemployed coal miner, in Aki Kaurismäki's acclaimed film *Ariel*. This role not only showcased his talent but also earned him the prestigious Bronze St. George award for Best Actor at the 16th Moscow International Film Festival, marking a significant highlight in his career.
In addition to his leading role in *Ariel*, Pajala contributed to numerous supporting roles in various films and television series throughout his career. However, following the success of *Ariel*, he chose to step back from the limelight, leading to a gradual withdrawal from public appearances. His final film role came in 1998 with *Kulkurin taivas*, directed by Joona Tena. Pajala's last television performance was in 2007, where he portrayed a Christmas tree salesman in the series *Taivaan tulet*.
Turo Pajala was born into an artistic family, as his father, Erkki Pajala (1929–1992), was also an actor. Turo had a daughter from his first marriage to fellow actress Aino Seppo. Despite his later reclusiveness, Pajala's contributions to Finnish cinema remain memorable and impactful.
