Red Mitchell
Mark Benton "Red" Mitchell (August 1, 1961 - August 11, 1994) was a talented American actor, best remembered for his role as Cody Lambert, a bull rider, in the film *8 Seconds*.
Red grew up in Splendora, Texas, where he excelled as an all-district athlete in multiple sports, including football, baseball, and basketball. However, it was during his high school years that he also nurtured a passion for poetry and drama. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Drama from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, in 1984. Mitchell's career began in regional theater and industrial films, and he later joined the Screen Actors Guild, adopting the name "Red" in tribute to his father, who also served as his high school football coach.
Red's promising career included notable appearances in films such as *JFK* (1991) and *8 Seconds* (1994), where he starred alongside Luke Perry and Stephen Baldwin. Despite his early successes, his career faced challenges, leading him to return home for a while. Tragically, Red's life was cut short when he was involved in a fatal car accident at a rural railroad crossing, while his father survived the incident.
In his memory, the Mark Mitchell Foundation was established in 2005 as a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting graduating seniors in their educational endeavors and facilitating various charitable initiatives in the community.
