Kim McGuire

1 title Acting Dec 01, 1955 Died: Sep 14, 2016 New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

Kim Diane McGuire (December 1, 1955 – September 14, 2016) was a multifaceted American lawyer and author, who transitioned from acting to a successful legal career. She captured audiences with her striking portrayal of Mona "Hatchet-Face" Malnorowski in John Waters' 1990 musical comedy, *Cry-Baby*, which remains her most recognized role.

Following her breakout performance, McGuire appeared in various projects, including the 1993 TV film *Acting on Impulse*, and had a brief uncredited role in Waters' *Serial Mom* (1994). Her distinctive look made her a perfect fit for eccentric characters in quirky series such as HBO's *Dream On* (1990) and David Lynch's short-lived *On the Air* (1992), which aired for only three episodes.

In 1997, McGuire earned her law degree and was admitted to the California State Bar, focusing on entertainment and appellate law. She and her husband, Emmy-winning producer Gene Piotrowsky, faced challenges after losing their jobs following the September 11 attacks, prompting their move to Biloxi, Mississippi. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, which left them homeless, McGuire secured a temporary law license in Alabama and later became a family law attorney.

After being re-admitted to the California State Bar in 2010, McGuire’s life was tragically cut short when she succumbed to pneumonia and cardiac arrest on September 14, 2016, in Naples, Florida.
