Michael Vavitch
Michael Vavitch, born Mikhail Ivanovich Vavich in Odessa, Ukraine, in 1881 or 1885, was a celebrated Russian actor and singer known for his contributions to operetta. His career began to flourish in 1905 when he made his stage debut in St. Petersburg, performing in a private operetta by P.V. Tumpakov. Vavitch gained significant acclaim for his portrayal of the Viscount Cascade in Franz Lehár's beloved operetta, "The Merry Widow," which solidified his reputation as a prominent figure in the performing arts.
In 1918, amidst the upheaval of the Russian Revolution, Vavitch relocated to the United States, where he settled in Los Angeles. His passion for the operetta continued as he intermittently graced the stage with his performances, captivating audiences with his vocal prowess and charisma.
