Kaarin Raid
Kaarin Raid (October 22, 1942 – July 29, 2014) was a prominent Estonian director, theatre educator, and actress whose contributions significantly shaped the cultural landscape of Estonia. Born in Rakvere, she pursued her passion for the performing arts by graduating from GITIS in 1967, specializing in directing.
Throughout her illustrious career, Raid held directing positions at several esteemed institutions. From 1967 to 1974, she was the director at Endla Theatre, followed by a tenure at Estonian Youth Theatre from 1974 to 1977. Her directorial talents flourished at Vanemuine Theatre between 1977 and 1983, and she later made her mark at Ugala Theatre, where she directed from 1983 to 1995 and again from 2000 to 2005.
In addition to her work in theatre, Raid made significant contributions to education as a lecturer at the Viljandi Culture Academy from 1994 to 2001, nurturing the next generation of theatre artists. Her versatility extended beyond the stage, as she also appeared in various films, showcasing her talent across different mediums.
