Joanna Kulig
Joanna Kulig, born on June 24, 1982, in Krynica, Poland, is a talented actress and singer known for her versatility across multiple languages. Over the years, she has made her mark in film, television, radio, and theater, earning significant accolades in the process. Kulig has been honored with a European Film Award and two Polish Film Awards, and her performances have garnered recognition at numerous film festivals. Initially aspiring to be a jazz singer, Kulig shifted her focus to acting, enrolling at the AST National Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków, where she graduated in 2007. During her time at the academy, she made her stage debut in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Her first leading role came in the 2007 film Wednesday, Thursday Morning, which earned her the Best Debut award at the Gdynia Film Festival. She further solidified her reputation with her performance in the 2011 film Elles, winning her the Best Supporting Actress award at both the Polish Film Awards and the Gdynia Film Festival.
Raised in a musical household in Muszynka, Kulig is the daughter of a kindergarten cook and a folk poet. She shares her artistic lineage with her sister, Justyna Schneider, who also pursued acting, adopting their great-grandmother's surname for clarity amidst their similar first names.
