He began his acting journey at the tender age of seven, but stepped away from the spotlight at thirteen. Following his service in the Swedish military, Skarsgård made a return to acting, landing his first American role in the comedy Zoolander. His career took a significant turn in 2008 when he portrayed Marine Brad Colbert in the acclaimed miniseries Generation Kill, but his rise to fame was solidified with his role as the charismatic vampire Eric Northman in HBO's True Blood, which aired from 2008 to 2014.
