Lorna Thayer

Lorna Thayer (March 10, 1919 – June 4, 2005) was an accomplished American character actress known for her contributions to theatre and television. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of Louise Gibney, a renowned silent film actress.

Throughout her career, Thayer made numerous appearances in both theatrical productions and on-screen performances. In 1955, she featured alongside Paul Birch in the film The Beast with a Million Eyes. Additionally, she took on supporting roles in several notable films, including The Lusty Men, Texas City, and Frankie and Johnny.

Thayer's most memorable performance came in the 1970 classic Five Easy Pieces, where she portrayed a waitress who famously denied Jack Nicholson's character the request for a side of wheat toast. This particular scene has since gained popularity and is often referred to as the "chicken salad scene," solidifying her place in cinematic history.

Lorna Thayer passed away at the age of 86 at the Motion Picture and Television Fund Retirement Home located in Woodland Hills, California. She had been struggling with Alzheimer's disease for five years prior to her death. Her legacy endures through her performances and the lasting impression she made on audiences throughout her career.
