The Chess Player (2017)

Plot

Diego Padilla triumphs at the 1934 Spanish Chess Championship and embarks on a romantic journey with French journalist Marianne Latour. Following the Spanish Civil War, Marianne persuades Diego to relocate to France with their daughter. However, their new life takes a dark turn when Diego is wrongfully accused of espionage by the Nazis and imprisoned in an SS facility. Within the grim confines of the prison, he clings to survival, relying on Colonel Maier's shared love for chess to navigate the perilous landscape and maintain his hope for freedom.
