Plot
Kurt Anderson, a ruthless manager at a struggling New York department store, shows no remorse in firing long-time employees or manipulating the women around him. Among his targets is Madeline, a desperate young woman seeking work. After a night of passion, he hires her as a salesgirl, leaving Madeline feeling humiliated. Complicating matters, she develops genuine feelings for Martin West, an ambitious employee at the store. Madeline’s greatest anxiety is that Martin will discover the sordid details of her entry into the job, threatening her chance at happiness and a fresh start.
