Plot
Graham Weir, a troubled schoolteacher battling alcoholism and haunted by his refusal to enlist in World War II, faces disdain from nearly everyone, including his resentful wife, Anna. His life takes a turn when Shirley Taylor, an attractive student, develops feelings for him. While initially flattered by her affection, Weir ultimately rebuffs her advances. However, Shirley’s unexpected choices lead to further complications in his already tumultuous existence, forcing him to confront the consequences of his past and the tangled relationships around him.
