In March 1920, near Center, North Dakota, Hazel Miner and her siblings, Emmet and Myrdith, are finishing up their school day. Due to worsening weather conditions, the students are dismissed early as light snow evolves into a menacing storm. Battling the fierce wind and heavy snow, the siblings’ sled tips over into a coulee, forcing them to seek refuge for the night. As they struggle to keep warm and alert, their parents and friends desperately search for them, hoping to find them in time.
