Plot

In "Mermaids," 15-year-old Charlotte Flax is weary of her eccentric mother, who constantly relocates their family on a whim. Their latest move takes them to a quaint Massachusetts town, where Mrs. Flax starts a romance with a local shopkeeper. Charlotte and her younger sister, Kate, yearn for stability at last. However, when Charlotte develops feelings for an older man, the family faces challenges that force them to embrace their true selves and accept one another's complexities.
