On the quaint island of Porto Buio, a beloved Christmas Nativity scene faces cancellation due to the absence of infants, as the longtime Jesus actor has outgrown his role. Newly elected Mayor Cecco (Claudio Bisio) proposes an unconventional solution: recruit a child from the local Tunisian community. However, this idea stirs tension between the locals and immigrants. Seeking harmony, Cecco turns to Bilal (Alessandro Gassman), a recent convert to Islam, to help bridge the cultural gap. The island grapples with the implications of a baby Jesus whose nationality—and possibly religion—may need altering.
