Set against the backdrop of a lavish wedding, vibrant urban life, a rehabilitation center for former child soldiers, and a lively nightclub, filmmaker Kimi Takesue artfully portrays the diverse landscape of modern Uganda. Through her exquisite cinematography and poetic pacing, she invites viewers to intimately experience this captivating nation on their own terms. As she documents the everyday struggles and the lingering effects of past civil conflicts, Takesue, mindful of her outsider perspective, seeks to convey raw authenticity. With a mostly observational approach, she lets the sights, sounds, and stories of Uganda unfold, capturing genuine moments—like the interactions with a group of school children.
