Plot
'Shoelaces' explores the fraught dynamics between an estranged father, Reuben, and his special-needs son, Gadi. After years of abandonment, Reuben faces kidney failure, prompting Gadi to offer one of his kidneys for a transplant. However, the transplant committee blocks the procedure, arguing that Reuben, as Gadi's legal guardian, cannot authorize such a decision. Following the recent loss of his mother, Gadi is determined to prove his worth and fight for his father's life. The film poignantly examines themes of love, rejection, and the deep connections that define human existence, ultimately questioning what it means to truly live.
