In a harsh rural landscape of North-East Argentina, Antonio, an alcoholic woodcutter, grapples with his disappointment over having daughters instead of a son. After sending his three daughters away for a better life, he names his latest girl José, nicknaming her Bumbún, and imposes a male identity on her. Mercedes, heartbroken by the loss of her other children, shields Bumbún from Antonio's oppressive demands. As Bumbún navigates life under this imposed identity, she faces an internal battle between conforming to her father's wishes and asserting her true self.
