Plot

This film offers a profound glimpse into the serene daily existence of the Carthusian monks residing at the Grande Chartreuse in the French Alps. The project was initially suggested to the monks in 1984, but they requested more time for contemplation. Sixteen years later, the monks reached out to filmmaker Philip Gröning, expressing their willingness to collaborate on the documentary, provided he remained interested in capturing their unique way of life. The resulting film immerses viewers in the contemplative silence and spiritual depth of monastic life.
