Twelve-year-old Di navigates life in the misty mountains of northern Vietnam, a region steeped in Hmong traditions that often see girls married off at a young age. The practice of “bride-napping,” where boys abduct their future wives on New Year's Eve, looms large, as it has affected both Di’s sister and mother. Conversations about relationships and intimacy are commonplace among the women, but school exposes Di to contrasting ideals. Amidst these pressures, her mother subtly cautions against the realities of child marriage, leaving Di to grapple with her future and personal autonomy.
