Plot

In 1976, renowned American author Nathan Zuckerman is drawn into a perilous quest by Czech émigré Sisovsky, who urges him to secure priceless manuscripts from communist Czechoslovakia. As Nathan navigates the watchful eyes of the secret police in Prague, he encounters Sisovsky's flamboyant ex-wife, Olga, the manuscripts' keeper. Their tumultuous connection unfolds, embodying the clash between the repressive Eastern regime and the liberated West. However, convincing Olga to part with the manuscripts proves to be a formidable challenge, as their fiery exchanges reveal deeper truths about freedom and desire.
