Mary Morgan, a privileged American mother, pulls her son George from school for homeschooling, which includes a trip to Mozambique. Tragically, George contracts malaria after being bitten by a mosquito and dies. Overwhelmed by grief, Mary returns to Africa, where she meets Martha O'Connell, a British woman who lost her son Ben to the same disease. Ben had given away his mosquito net, believing adults were safe. Together, the women confront the staggering malaria death toll. As Martha volunteers on the ground, Mary rallies for change back home, ultimately addressing a Senate committee with her father’s help. Their efforts spark a movement, though much work remains.
