Plot

In present-day Nicaragua, eleven-year-old María navigates life with her mother, Lilibeth, near a sprawling garbage dump. Their hopes hinge on selling a litter of purebred puppies to a gang member, but when the transaction collapses, Lilibeth is forced to relocate to the city's outskirts, leaving María to fend for herself at a recycling factory. As days stretch on with no news of her mother, María grapples with feelings of abandonment and anger. A chance encounter with Tadeo, a compassionate and romantic boy, sparks a determination to help her search for Lilibeth.
